Campaign
We are excited to report that the Campaign for St. Paul’s surpassed the $21 million mark during the 2009-2010 school year, fueled by generous leadership commitments from St. Paul’s alumni, parents, parents of graduates, grandparents, and friends. In all, more than 1,600 donors have made Campaign gifts toward the Endowment, the construction of Fisher Hall, and the Annual Fund.
Highlights from the past year included a commitment from Joe Carter ’58 to endow a faculty chair to support innovative uses of technology in the classroom. The Nellie Hilleary Carter and Judge Joseph L. Carter Distinguished Chair in Innovative Educational Technology is the second chair established during the Campaign, along with the William Bassett Chair for Teaching Excellence.
In the spring, Headmaster Tom Reid announced that the School had also received leadership commitments toward a third chair dedicated
to sustaining the teacher-coach tradition at St. Paul’s. The chair will be named in honor of Kent W. “Skip” Darrell ’60, who has been one of the standard bearers of this tradition for more than three decades. Generous commitments from Claudia and Paul Brookes ’61, Jack Darrell ’60, and Elmon Vernier ’60 will provide initial funding for the Darrell Chair.
The St. Paul’s Annual Fund passed the $1.4 million mark for the first time, propelled by a $50,000 “challenge” gift from a Trustee that was answered by three generous donors, including a current parent, a parent of two graduates, and the Alumni Board. Also critical to the Annual Fund’s success was a strong Senior Class Gift effort led by Emily and Kevin Powderly and Maureen and Jim Smith ’72 that raised $150,000 from parents of the class of 2010. The opening of Fisher Hall this fall has provided a nice boost as we enter the Campaign’s final year. We are so grateful to all who have stepped up to support the Campaign. And we look with hope to those who will help us finish this Campaign during the coming year!
Sincerely,
Laurie and Dave Fisher ’61
